RON PAUL TIES Newt !!!!

Drudge Report – RON PAUL 21% Gingrich 22%

Paul closes in on Gingrich

Public Police Polling December 13, 2011

There has been some major movement in the Republican Presidential race in Iowa over the last week, with what was a 9 point lead for Newt Gingrich now all the way down to a single point.

Gingrich is at 22% to 21% for Paul

with Mitt Romney at 16%, Michele Bachmann at 11%, Rick Perry at 9%, Rick Santorum at 8%, Jon Huntsman at 5%, and Gary Johnson at 1%.

Gingrich has dropped 5 points in the last week and he’s also seen a significant decline in his favorability numbers. Last week he was at +31 (62/31) and he’s now dropped 19 points to +12 (52/40). The attacks on him appear to be taking a heavy toll- his support with Tea Party voters has declined from 35% to 24%.

Paul meanwhile has seen a big increase in his popularity from +14 (52/38) to +30 (61/31). There are a lot of parallels between Paul’s strength in Iowa and Barack Obama’s in 2008- he’s doing well with new voters, young voters, and non-Republican voters:

-59% of likely voters participated in the 2008 Republican caucus and they support Gingrich 26-18. But among the 41% of likely voters who are ‘new’ for 2012 Paul leads Gingrich 25-17 with Romney at 16%. Paul is doing a good job of bringing out folks who haven’t done this before.

-He’s also very strong with young voters. Among likely caucus goers under 45 Paul is up 30-16 on Gingrich. With those over 45, Gingrich leads him 26-15 with Romney at 17%.

-Among Republicans Gingrich leads Paul 25-17. But with voters who identify as Democrats or independents, 21% of the electorate in a year with no action on the Democratic side, Paul leads Gingrich 34-14 with Romney at 17%.

Young voters, independents, and folks who haven’t voted in caucuses before is an unusual coalition for a Republican candidate…the big question is whether these folks will really come out and vote…if they do, we could be in for a big upset.

Paul’s supporters are considerably more committed to him than Gingrich’s are. 77% of current Paul voters say they’re definitely going to vote for him, compared to only 54% for Gingrich. Romney has much more solid support than Gingrich as well, 67% of his voters saying they’re with him for the long haul. Among only voters who say their mind’s totally made up, 29% support Paul to 21% for Gingrich, 18% for Romney, and 11% for Bachmann.

Romney’s staying right in place. He was at 16% last week and he’s at 16% this week. His net favorability was a +4 spread last week and it’s a +4 spread this week. Gingrich’s support is declining in Iowa but Romney’s not gaining, just as he failed to gain when Cain and Perry and Bachmann collapsed before. One statistic that really jumps out- only 44% of Romney’s supporters from 2008 say they plan to vote for him again. If he was even just retaining all his support from last time around he’d be in the lead.
Like Romney, there’s been little change in Michele Bachmann’s standing over the last week. Her favorability was +21 (56/35). Now it’s +18 (55/37). She’s gone from 13% support to 11%.

Rick Perry generated a ton of attention in the last week with his ad decrying the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and the ‘War on Christmas,’ but it hasn’t done much for his poll standing. He was at 9% and he’s still at 9%. His favorability numbers are under water with 43% of likely voters viewing him favorably to 47% with a negative opinion. The only Republican who’s less well regarded is Jon Huntsman. Only 41% of Iowa Republicans even oppose gays serving in the military to 28% who support it and 31% unsure…and Perry’s only tied for fourth even with those who are opposed, behind Gingrich, Bachmann, and Paul.

RP12 – Ron Paul 2012

Paul wins online polls after Iowa Debate; Crushing Gingrich, Romney

Sunday, December 11, 2011 – 05:21
EDITED BY TONY RUTHERFORD FROM MULTIPLE REPORTS

Six presidential candidates attended the ABC GOP presidential debate Saturday night, Dec. 10 on Campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Michele Bachmann, and Rick Santorium engaged in what the Des Moines Register called “a Saturday night brawl.”

Gingrich’s Republican rivals largely kept him on the defensive on policies such as his previous support for mandatory health insurance. Meanwhile , Romney offered Perry a $10,000 handshake bet concerning the authenticity of Perry’s description of Romney’s prior statements on health care.

Paul stressed financial reforms such as ending the Federal Reserve system and saving $1 trillion by pulling troops out of Iraq, Afghanistan and other overseas country.

“If we took our oath of office seriously, we’d get rid of 80 percent of the government, the budget would be balanced, we would have sound money and we would have prosperity,” Paul said during the debate. He added, “We wouldn’t be the policeman of the world…and we wouldn’t invade the privacy of every single individual in this country with bill like the Patriot Act.”

Paul exposed Gingrich’s acceptance of money from Freddie Mac during the housing bubble collapse in 2008. From 1999 to 2008, Gingrich received $1.6 million from the federally back company. Paul blasted him for that: “[You were] earning a lot of money from Freddie Mac while I was fighting over a decade to try to explain to people where the housing bubble was coming from. I think you probably got some of our taxpayer’s money.”

Paul who is known for a strong online response from his supporters has yet again walked away with strong leads in major on line polls, including ABC, Yahoo, National Review, and Today’s World (which stresses Christian views).

As for the polls, they asked variations of “who do you think came out on top during the GOP debate,” ABC news.com received just over 8,746 votes of which 6,500 plus were in Paul’s corner. Gingrich followed with 1,000, Romney 590, Bachmann 200, and Perry 156.

Based on results prior to 6 a.m. Sunday Dec 11, Paul had 63% of National Review voters followed by Gingrich 18% and Romney at 12% based on about 2,900 total votes. He amassed 86% of the vote in the WORLDmag.com online poll, which represents the Christian community. Romney and Gingrich scored a virtual tie with 4.9% and 4.8% respectively.

One online writer known as “Iowa Boy” said “I don’t think this was a debate that you could say any candidate won. Congresswoman Bachmann seemed stronger than usual. I thought it effective when she gloomed Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Romney with the label “Newt-Romney.” She, Mr. Paul, Mr. Santorum and Mr. Perry convinced me that ‘Newt-Romney’ has/have flip flopping baggage that could be a fatal flaw when trying to debate Mr. Obama.”

Film Critic Roger Ebert took a break from the cinema and tweeted, “ Ron Paul is the only GOP candidate who speaks directly and clearly without a lot of hot air and lip flap.”

Yahoo asked 16 debate poll questions. 72.48% (26,700) voters indicated they would like to hear more from Dr. Paul during debates. Further, 58.66% of 32,859 voters wanted to “hear from “ someone else at the debate rather than Gingrich (27%) and Romney (14%). Similarly, 57.26% of the Yahoo voters thought “someone else” had the “best chance of defeating President Obama.” Gingrich total 24.2% and Romney 18.53%.

As to the debate subject matter, 74.5% wanted to hear more about job creation with 15.8% responding “taxes” and 9.6% answering “healthcare.”

Following the debate, Ron Paul continued to show strength in online polls.

Ron Paul Wins GOP Twitter Primary, Pew Study Shows

Posted: 12/ 8/11 12:09 AM ET

NEW YORK — Ron Paul’s never garnered as much media attention as other Republican presidential candidates, even after placing second in the Ames Straw Poll and remaining at the top of the pack in Iowa. And when Paul’s name does come up on cable news chats, it’s often in the context of being unelectable or a fringe candidate.

For Paul, who’s long enjoyed a strong following online, the social media conversation has been much kinder than the national media’s coverage. Pew’s Project for Excellence for Journalism, in a new study analyzing more than 20 million election-related tweets from May through November, found that Paul “fared far better” than any other Republican candidate. Paul was referred to positively in 55 percent of the 1.1 million assessments about him on Twitter studied during this period. Only 15 percent of those assessments were negative, and 30 percent were neutral.

“This treatment of Paul stands in contrast to that of most of the GOP field, for whom Twitter has been a tough neighborhood,” the study found. “Five of Paul’s seven GOP rivals have had negative opinions on Twitter outstrip positive ones by roughly 2-1 or more.

The “Twitter and the Campaign” study combined PEJ staffers’ traditional news analysis — which factors into each weekly Pew study — along with Crimson Hexagon’s computer algorithmic technology. Clearly, a handful of researchers couldn’t comb through the Twitter’s public “Firehose” data feed, which includes roughly 140 million tweets daily. So researchers examined a sample of tweets before coding, with the computer picking up on word patterns in tweets to determine if the candidate assessment was positive, negative or neutral.

Although Paul received the most positive response, he wasn’t the most talked about overall on the social media platform. Former Republican candidate Herman Cain — who the study found received the most U.S. media attention of any Republican candidate over the past seven weeks — came in first with 2.2 million assessments, albeit more negative than Paul’s.

Still, Republican candidates didn’t get nearly as many assessments as the man they hope to replace. But Obama also faced a lot of criticism from Twitter users. Of Obama’s 15 million assessments, the study found that the negative outweighed the positive 3-1. And yet, the study also noted that “Obama’s most sharply negative assessment has come from the news media, not social media,” echoing a previous study from October.

PEJ’s full report, including analysis of how Twitter assessments of candidates differed from the blogosphere and news media, can be found here.

TRUMP BOWS TO RON PAUL !!!!!

Trump bows out – Politico – Burns & Haberman

Comments (38) By ALEXANDER BURNS | 12/13/11 2:05 PM EST

This just in: Donald Trump has bowed out of moderating the NewsMax debate in Iowa later, announcing his decision in a statement saying he will not give up the option of running for president as an independent. Trump:

The Republican Party candidates are very concerned that sometime after the final episode of The Apprentice, on May 20th, when the equal time provisions are no longer applicable to me, I will announce my candidacy for President of the United States as an Independent and that, unless I conclusively agree not to run as an Independent, they will not agree to attend or be a part of the Newsmax debate scheduled for December 27, 2011. It is very important to me that the right Republican candidate be chosen to defeat the failed and very destructive Obama Administration, but if that Republican, in my opinion, is not the right candidate, I am not willing to give up my right to run as an Independent candidate. Therefore, so that there is no conflict of interest within the Republican Party, I have decided not to be the moderator of the Newsmax debate. The American people are embarrassed by the gridlock currently taking place in Washington. I must leave all of my options open because, above all else, we must make America great again!

I would like to thank Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum for having the courage, conviction, and confidence to immediately accept being a part of the Newsmax debate. I believe this would not only have been the most watched debate, but also the most substantive and interesting debate!

Gotta love that the date of “The Apprentice” season finale ended up in there.

What is the debate about …..who has the most marriages or bankruptcies ? With 1 marriage and NO bankruptcies I guess Ron Paul would not have much to talk about…..on the other hand dt you have had 3 marriages and what 2-3 bankruptcies ???

Maybe the participants can be your new apprentices !!!
